Lord Tugendhat

Christopher Tugendhat has been Chancellor of the University of Bath since 1998.
He will be retiring from 1 August 2013 when the role will be taken up by our next Chancellor, His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex.
As the ceremonial head of the University, The Chancellor presides over meetings of the Court, confers Degrees at graduation and otherwise represents the University.
Lord Tugendhat is a member of the House of Lords Select Committee on Economic Affairs and was Chairman of the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust until December 2011.
He is a former Chairman of Abbey National plc and of Blue Circle Industries plc. At an earlier stage of his career he was a Vice-President of the European Commission and before that a Conservative MP.
He began life as a journalist with The Financial Times and is the author of several books. He also chairs the University Court and attends the University Council.
Lord Tugendhat was educated at Ampleforth College and Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge, of which he is an Honorary Fellow. He has been awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws by the University of Bath and an Honorary Doctor of Letters by UMIST.
