Leaving your contract
If you wish to leave your accommodation contract at any time during your stay, for whatever reason, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss options with you.
The following student accommodation termination policy gives details of the procedure for ending a student accommodation contract and details the circumstances under which a refund will be given.
Students moving to private accommodation
Permission to leave the accommodation part way through the licence on 30 January 2013 will only be granted if six weeks’ notice is given. Therefore, to depart on 30 January 2013, notice must be given by 19 December 2012.
If you choose to leave our accommodation at any other time, or if you have not given sufficent notice to leave, then you will be responsible for the accommodation fees until officially released by the Student Accommodation Office.
It is not permitted to sub-let or allow other students to live in rooms without the formal permission of the Student Accommodation Office.
Please note: the above conditions do not apply to students on Semester One/Semester Two licence.
Students in suspension or withdrawing from a course
Students who suspend or withdraw from their course early will be liable for a termination charge equivalent to four weeks’ rent from the date they leave residence.
It should be noted that such students are expected to vacate their rooms within two weeks of their suspension or withdrawal date.
The Student Accommodation Office in the West Accommodation Centre must be contacted personally for the relevant authorisation and forms to be completed.
- for credit and debit cards the refund will be credited to the card which made the initial payment.
- for direct debit payments the refund will be by UK bank cheque or BACS to the account holder.
- refunds for all other payment types will be by UK bank cheque or BACS.
- any overpayments made for accommodation fees will be refunded back to the customer.
Accommodation Services will discuss accommodation financial matters with the payee unless the student for whom the payee is making payment, refuses permission in writing.
Summer English Language Centre students
There is no early release date within the summer Pre-sessional and ELAC accommodation contracts but if withdrawing from study for medical reasons or on compassionate grounds some flexibility will be applied. In such case we would seek verification from the English Language Centre. A notice of early departure form would need to be completed, please collect this from the West Accommodation Centre.
If you choose to leave our accommodation at any other time and move to private sector accommodation then you will be responsible for the accommodation fees until officially released by the Student Accommodation Office.
