Tip: Screen share

Have a meeting and work out whether a communal TV Licence for your kitchen is worth chipping in for.

Between eight, for example, it’s less than £20 for the year – and you can claim back any unused holiday periods, too...

Internet, TV and phone

Internet access

All rooms have a wired connection to the internet and the campus network.

WiFi is available on campus in Woodland Court, Marlborough and Solsbury, Norwood, Polden, Quarry and Mendip, Congrye and Brendon. All other areas will have WiFi by January 2012.

Freewire TV

Visit www.freewiretv.com and download their TV software to enjoy 30 channels of radio and TV on your computer for free. Remember if you want to do this, or if you want to use a TV set in your room or a communal kitchen, you’ll need to buy a TV Licence.

A licence is £145.50 for a year, but you can claim a refund for unused quarters, eg summer vacation: visit www.tvlicensing.co.uk for details.

TV licences are included in the room fee for residents in Polden Court and Woodland Court C Block.

Freewire Telephone

The Freewire Telephone service lets you speak to your fellow residents in any of our halls, or anyone on the Freewire network, free of charge.

If your bedroom does not have a Freewire handset, you can still access the Freewire service by downloading the free software.
