This degree has been accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, and the Institute of Highway Engineers under licence from the UK regulator, the Engineering Council. Accreditation is a mark of assurance that the degree meets the standards set by the Engineering Council in the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC). An accredited degree will provide you with some or all of the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for eventual registration as an Incorporated (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng). Some employers recruit preferentially from accredited degrees, and an accredited degree is likely to be recognised by other countries that are signatories to international accords.
This degree is accredited as fully satisfying the educational base to become a Chartered Engineer (CEng).

The Civil Engineering courses at Bath provide an excellent general education for civil engineers, with a particular focus on the structural design of buildings. Students learn to apply the understanding they gain in the engineering disciplines in substantial design projects, with an increasing emphasis on interdisciplinary team working with students of architecture. The MEng in Civil & Architectural Engineering aims to give graduates an exceptional ability to work creatively with other professions in the design of buildings, and to this end covers the full range of technologies including building environmental engineering. The integration of structural design, architecture and building environmental systems in buildings is a major focus of the course. The course is available as 4 year full-time or 5 year thin sandwich degree. The 5 year thick sandwich course offers students a Placement in Practice during their third year.
