Centre for Cladding and Window Technology
CWCT stands alongside the Department, funded and guided by industry. The Department and CWCT run research projects jointly while CWCT supports postgraduate researchers within the Department.
CWCT undertakes research into all aspects of building envelopes including structure, integrity, physics, design and construction. It has established links with many researchers through its leadership of COST Action C13 Glass and Interactive Façades, and through the Centre’s biennial conferences. Its income from industry over the review period averaged £372,000 per year.
CWCT influences government policy through its work on building envelopes for energy efficient buildings and is author of the ODPM’s guidance documents in this field. It leads industry specification through its publication ‘Standard for systemised building envelopes’. CWCT supports and contributes to the MSc in Façade Engineering.
