Architecture graduate awarded RIBA Boyd Auger Scholarship 2012

Architecture graduate Jo Ashbridge has recently won the 2012 RIBA Boyd Auger Scholarship for her project researching the role of Earth architecture in a disaster relief framework.

The Scholarship, worth £5,000, supports architecture students and graduates by providing an opportunity to undergo a period of imaginative and original research and travel.

Jo's project focuses on research in areas on the southern coast of Bangladesh which are at great risk of natural disasters such as standing water, flash floods, monsoon rains, cyclones, and earthquakes.

The research project will hopefully conclude with 'Phase Three', the construction of houses for families with acutely limited assets. This is an area very close to Jo's heart  so she has set up a fundraising website, Housing in Bangladesh, which she hopes will help raise public interest and funds for the project.

You can also find more information and follow Jo's progress on her blog Bagladesh research project.
