ACE students win 3DReid/AJ Student Prize 2013
Timothy Anderson, William
Hei, Darran Levins and Nathan Ovens, sixth year students from the
Department of Architecture and Civil
Engineering, have won the top prize of £1000 in the 3DReid/AJ Student Prize 2013.
The four students, who are studying for a MArch in Architecture, impressed the judges with their project Volver a Nacer: A City Reborn. The master planning project revolved around a study of Nicosia in Cyprus, a city divided by a UN buffer zone, known as the 'green line', instated after conflict between the Greek and Turkish Cypriots in 1974.
The team’s in-depth presentation included a self-made 2m square model plan of the city, along with illustrations, brochures, an animation, and the specific building designs to demonstrate their plan for the gradual reunification of the city.
Professor Alex Wright, Head of Architecture, commented:
"The best projects from every School of Architecture in the UK compete for this prize and I am absolutely delighted that the outstanding work of our students has been rightly recognised. I was particularly pleased as the project exemplifies the sort of holistic and sustainable design approach for which the University of Bath is renowned."
