Dr Francis Moran

Part-time lecturer on Renewable energy sources & low-carbon techniques and Research Associate for SIMPod project in EDEn.


Francis Moran is a part-time lecturer and a Research Associate within the Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering. His research focuses on minimising the energy use of buildings with a heavy emphasis on traditional and historic buildings.

Francis is the Director of a construction company focusing on renovation and retrofit of domestic dwellings.

Francis received a BSc in Building in 1984 from the then Southbank Polytechnic. He completed his MSc in 2009 at the Centre for Alternative Technology. He received a PhD on the Energy Efficiency of Historic Buildings in 2014 from the University of Bath.

Francis's research interests include: 

  • energy use in historic buildings
  • retrofit renewable energy technology in domestic dwellings
  • passive house retrofit design and implementation.

Francis is available to supervise student research projects in these areas.
