Matthew Wickens

Profile
Matthew Wickens is Director of Studies of the BSc Architecture. He is also 1st Year Studio Leader and tutors in the 6th Year of the MArch Architecture programme .
Matthew is a qualified architect and prior to joining the University of Bath he worked in London for Rick Mather Architects on cultural and academic projects, often in historical listed contexts. These included the Stirling Prize shortlisted Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, as well as a project for a new library & archive for The Queen's College, Oxford, and a new library for Christ's College, Cambridge. Other competition winning schemes included Stowe School Education Zone Masterplan; Towner, a new contemporary art gallery in Eastbourne; and Corpus Christi College Auditorium, and Keble College Acland Q6 project, both in Oxford. Matthew previously combined practice with teaching as a visiting 1st year studio tutor and visiting critic in other years at Bath.
Matthew is a member of Docomomo UK and sits on Docomomo's International Steering Committee for Registers (ISC/R). He has been a member of the Twentieth Century Society's Casework Committee which reviews Listed Building Consent Applications for post-1914 Listed Buildings.
Matthew studied at the University of Bath. He has also studied at l'Ecole d'Architecture de Lille and the Bartlett. His student work was nominated for both the RIBA Silver Medal and the RIBA Dissertation Prize. He was awarded a commendation for his Dissertation entitled 'The Modern House in Bath - Peter Womersley's Valley Spring'.
