# Dr Jun Zang

## Profile

Dr Jun Zang is a Reader in Civil Engineering Hydraulics in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Bath.

Before joining the University of Bath in January 2007, Dr. Zang was a Departmental Lecturer at the University of Oxford. Prior to this, she has lectured at Dalian University of Technology, researched at HR Wallingford & Manchester Metropolitan University, and worked as a design engineer in Singapore.

She is also the Director of the Research Unit for Water, Environment and Infrastructure Resilience (WEIR).

## Research

Dr. Zang’s research concerns the hydrodynamic loadings on urban, coastal and offshore structures and the impact of extreme events on such structures. Her research group at Bath is one of the leading groups in developing and using advanced CFD tools in modelling fluid-structure interactions, urban and coastal flooding, and violent wave impact on coastal and offshore structures.

Dr. Zang recently led an EU funded project investigating violent wave impact on offshore wind turbine foundations using large scale of experiments. Currently she is the Bath Principal Investigator for three EPSRC projects on predicting extreme wave loading on offshore structures and exploring the science and engineering required to ensure that marine renewable energy devices survive extreme conditions. Her current on-going research projects also include: numerical simulation of coastal flooding and erosion; integrated system modelling of wave energy devices; and developing a new tidal energy device.

In her research Dr. Zang collaborates widely with industry and leading national and international research groups.

## Awards

In 2010, Dr. Zang won the John Willis Award, which is made to an academic who has demonstrated dedication to the academic and personal lives of students combined with accomplishment in research.
