Our Department undertakes advanced research and offers supervision for graduate students wishing to study for a PhD or an MPhil in Architecture and Civil Engineering.
We are also home to our Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Decarbonisation of the Built Environment. The Centre offers students the chance to study on an innovative three-year doctoral programme that focuses on low-carbon technologies. We offer ten fully-funded PhD places in the Centre each year.
Types of research degree
We offer three types of research degree:
- PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) - typically takes three years full-time or five years part-time
- MPhil (Master of Philosophy) - typically takes two years full-time or four years part-time
- Practice-led PhD - typically takes four years part time.
