Undergraduate study

“It was the joint teaching of architecture and engineering which first attracted me to Bath. It was clear that they understood the collaboration between heart and head in design."”
— Rachel Mundell,
BSc General Architectural Studies 2006; MArch, 2008.
Our international reputation is based on the simple philosophy that if architects and civil engineers are to work together, they will strongly benefit from being educated together.
We offer the following programmes:
- BSc (Hons) Architecture
- BEng/MEng (Hons) Civil Engineering
- MEng (Hons) Civil and Architectural Engineering
We also offer the two year MArch (RIBA part 2) programme, which follows on from the BSc Architecture in the journey to becoming an architect.
All our undergraduate programmes scored 100% for student satisfaction in the 2012 National Student Survey.
You can find out more about our programmes by attending a University Open Day. You can also browse our programme and unit catalogue for a flavour of the current academic year's choice of what to study.
Placements and projects
There are a series of joint design projects throughout all degree programmes, from the first year to the final year, where students from architecture and civil engineering work together in teams.
Placements are at the heart of our Architecture and the Civil Engineering programmes. This opportunity to combine placement with study gives our students the advantage of leaving as well-rounded, employable graduates.
Our reputation
We are ranked number 1 for Architecture (Complete University Guide 2013 and Times Good University Guide 2013) and our Civil Engineering department is top for teaching in the UK (Guardian University Guide 2013).
Our undergraduate architecture programmes are fully accredited by ARB and RIBA, and our undergraduate civil engineering programmes are accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators.
Careers
We develop architects who demonstrate a flair for innovative design, using both structural and environmental awareness to inform their designs.
We produce creative civil engineers with a profound technical understanding across the breadth of civil engineering, able to lead projects informed by their holistic outlook on design.
We are proud that The Sunday Times University Guide 2012 gave our Architecture programme a 100% graduate employment rating and ranked Civil Engineering 2nd in the UK for career prospects.
