Development and Alumni Relations:
What does the Development and Alumni Relations office do?
Your connection to the University of Bath does not end when you graduate. As an alumnus you are a part of the alumni community, and we are proud to have you! An active network of alumni helps make universities stronger and the Development and Alumni Relations office exists to maintain this network with the view to strengthening our institution.
Fundraising is one aspect of our work, and donations are a vital asset to the University (they provide scholarships, and fund new projects, research and buildings for example). However, the Development and Alumni Relations office is not funded by donations, meaning that every gift goes to the project for which it is intended.
We also help you access the benefits and services available to you as an alumnus, give advice on non-financial ways of contributing, keep you up-to-date on university and alumni news through regular communications, and finally we help you keep in touch with old classmates through running events and reunions.
Is the University of Bath a charity?
Yes. The University of Bath is an ‘exempt charity’ as described under the Charities Act 1993 (sched 2, para c). It is exempted from requiring a charity number but is entitled to exactly the same financial benefits as registered charities including relief from capital gains tax and exemption from Inheritance Tax (Charity Commission England & Wales CC23, 35).
The University is also a charity within the meaning of the Income & Corporation Taxes Act 1988, and, therefore, does not pay tax on legacy gifts.
Who are considered to be alumni of the University?
Anyone who has studied at the University is a University of Bath alumnus/a.
