House of Lords Reception 2013

Fri Jun 28 16:12:00 BST 2013

The Chancellor, Lord TugendhatAlways a highlight of our events calendar, this year’s alumni reception at the House of Lords on Friday 28 June was no exception. We welcomed almost 250 alumni and their guests to what was the last alumni reception to be hosted by our Chancellor, Lord Tugendhat, before his retirement.

There was a mood of celebration among the assembled guests as Lord Tugendhat reflected upon his time at Bath. He conveyed his pride at being part of an institution that continues to go from strength to strength and he hoped that his successor, His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex, would find the role as rewarding as he himself had done.

Lord Tugendhat then passed over to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dame Glynis Breakwell, who thanked him for his dedication to the University. She noted the remarkable progress that has been made in a variety of areas since the House of Lords reception last year, including the multi-million pound investment in the University’s campus, which will be marked by the opening of the Chancellors' Building in time for the next academic year.

Alumni at the House of Lords receptionThose present were asked to consider offering their time as volunteers, giving recent graduates the benefit of their experience at informal careers and networking events.

Alumni from as far as Australia and America enjoyed catching up over wine and canapés overlooking the Thames before having a tour of the Houses of Parliament.
