Student on placement at Microsoft

85 per cent of our students get graduate-level jobs on leaving and command salaries about £3,500 above the graduate average.

A lot of hard work goes into helping our students and new graduates get a foot on the career ladder. If you are able to provide careers support, there are several ways you can help. Read more below and take a look at our latest volunteering opportunities.

Join LinkedIn

Our group, University of Bath Alumni Community, is a great informal way to offer careers advice and share contacts. Some alumni also offer jobs to Bath graduates through the group. You will need to have a LinkedIn account to join. There are also a number of subject-specific groups - see a full list of LinkedIn groups for Bath alumni.

Become a Graduate Contact

As a Graduate Contact, students and recent graduates will be able to contact you for advice on interviews, assessment centres, or just to help them decide which career path is for them.

We are developing an online system which will make it easy for or alumni to share professional expertise with younger graduates or current students. The system will allow students and recent graduates to search for Graduate Contacts in a particular field, and contact them for one-to-one advice.

Offer a placement

Offering a professional placement is a fantastic way to support Bath. Around two thirds of our students undertake a placement while they are studying, making our graduates amongst the most employable in the UK.

Placements generally last from two weeks to a year and can improve a student’s confidence, job prospects and career focus.

If your company could offer a placement to a student, please get in touch.

Be a 'placement parent'

More and more of our students choose to take up placement opportunities overseas. However, relocating abroad to live and work for several months can be a daunting prospect. If you think you could help a student by being on hand, please get in touch. You will then be placed on a list of international alumni who we know we can contact on behalf of a student.

We hold regular alumni events overseas to which we invite students currently on placement. Find out about recent events in Europe.
