Alumni & friends

E-news February 2014
Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences

Since our last e-bulletin, we have welcomed nearly 1,000 new graduates into our alumni community at December’s graduation ceremonies. We would like to wish our new additions all the best with your next steps, wherever you may end up. If you’re missing us already, visit our alumni blog – On Parade – where you can read stories about the alumni community.

We’re gearing up for a busy season of spring events. Please let us know if you are relocating, or if there are cities which you visit regularly for business, to make sure you don't miss your invitation to future events, wherever you are in the world.

It has been another busy and successful year for the Faculty, as well as the University as a whole. The Institute of Policy Research, launched in 2013, is going from strength to strength, and among our many outstanding staff, Professor Tess Ridge has been especially recognised this year, by being made an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences. Many of you will have worked with Tess while you were studying here, and we hope you will extend your congratulations to her.

The Faculty also continues to attract philanthropic support, which makes a big difference to our students. We are grateful to have received gifts from several alumni and friends over the last year, to provide scholarships to some of our most talented undergraduate and postgraduate students. Thank you once again for your support.

You can find out more about the work of the Faculty, along with news from across the University, in the following stories.

With best wishes,

Professor Ian Butler , AcSS
Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
