January 2013 e-news

Happy new year! Last week a thick coating of snow – more than we've seen in the last few years – reminded us just how pretty Bath's campus can look.

Whatever the weather where you are, why not send us a photo and tell us what you've been up to with a Class Note? Log in to Bath Alumni Online and select 'Share your news' or simply email your updates to, including your full name and graduating year. We print as many Class Notes and photos as we have space for in BA2 magazine, so look out for yourself in the next issue. They are also published online.

Despite the snow, we're as busy as ever, planning an exciting programme of alumni events for the upcoming months. See some of the highlights below – we hope there's something for everyone.

At our recent winter graduation ceremonies we welcomed almost 1,000 new graduates to our alumni community, which now stretches across 150 countries. We'd like to wish all our alumni who celebrate it a happy Lunar New Year next month – we hope you have a great time.

With best wishes

Talented Bath students to benefit from new scholarships

Ten undergraduates will receive scholarships from Ford to support them in their studies. The students, who come from a range of engineering disciplines, will each receive £10,000 from the Ford Blue Oval scholarship fund over the next three years.

Meanwhile ten Bath students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects are to receive scholarships funded by BP, one of the UK's leading graduate recruiters. Find out more.

England netballers take historic win over Australia on campus

Crowds at the Sports Training Village saw history made on 20 January as England beat Australia 58-53 – only their third win over the 11-times World Netball Champions since 1956. What's more, Bath's reputation as a developer of major netball talent was enhanced, as six of the seven starters for the game had played or still play for Team Bath. Read the match report.

What's on your Leap List?

Alumni, staff and students have given us some great suggestions for the best things to do in and around Bath to create our Bath Leap List. Alumna Bethany Squire (BA European Studies & Modern Languages 2012) won our Facebook competition with her suggestion of the Bizarre Bath Comedy Walk.

The official list will be released next month on the Bath Leap List webpage and Facebook page, and we continue to welcome your ideas, memories and experiences.
