Welcome to the November e-news for University of Bath alumni. The semester is in full swing and we now have to battle our way down the Parade to get our lunch...but it's great to see all the new students getting involved in activities on campus!

A big thank you to all of those who completed our alumni survey – congratulations to our four winners. We have taken on board what you have said, so look out for our plans for the future in the next BA2 magazine in spring 2012.

The University has been recognised for its influential research into child poverty and support for vulnerable people. Read more.

Charter Day recognises the gift of scholarships

Over 150 new scholars were welcomed to the University at the annual Charter Day Scholarships Ceremony. They received their awards from Vice-Chancellor Glynis Breakwell and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Bernie Morley in front of an audience of proud parents and donors. Read more about this year's cohort.

Major gift will support International Development Research at Bath

The University has received a substantial donation from an anonymous donor which will support researchers working in the field of International Development. Find out more.

How did you travel to campus?

The trek up the hill (unless you were lucky enough to hitch a ride!) is one thing most alumni don't miss, but for one current student the journey to campus is a particularly arduous one. Alasdair Woods (Mathematical Sciences 2010-2014) will be running to and from the University for the entire academic year for charity. Find out more about his challenge and sponsor his efforts.

From McDonald's golden arches to Olympic Gold

Dai Greene, World, European and Commonwealth 400 metres hurdles champion, talks frankly about his goals for the London 2012 Olympics in an interview for the Daily Mail. Dai is one of the elite performers who currently trains at the University of Bath Sports Training Village. Read the interview here.

Alumnus supports PhD Studentship for his department

Dr Brian Nicholson, who gained both his BEng Electrical & Electronic Engineering (1995) and his PhD Electrical Engineering (1998) at the University of Bath, gives back to his department by supporting a PhD Studentship. Read more.
