BathMail: frequently asked questions

Am I eligible for a BathMail account?

All graduates and staff are eligible for a BathMail account. 

How do I set up my account?

Graduating students will automatically receive a BathMail username and password to their BUCS email account before BUCS deactivate this account. Please remember that BathMail is an entirely new account offered by the Alumni Relations team and is not intended to replace your BUCS email accounts; no information will be transferred.

Alumni who graduated before 2012 are also able to sign up for a BathMail email account. 

If you would like to register for BathMail, please email us at with your full name, date of birth, address, telephone number, subject of study and year of graduation. 

Can I change my username?

Yes - please follow this link to the 'request a new username' form. Alternatively, you can email or call + 44(0)1225 386824 with your request and we will change your username for you, as long as the new username you have selected is not currently in use. Please note these requests can take up to five working days.

How do I change my ‘From’ name within BathMail?

Login to your account. Above your messages, on the right, there will be a cog icon. Click on this and go to mail settings. In the ‘accounts’ tab, go to ‘send mail as’ and follow the ‘edit info’ link. This will enable you to change the name that appears when messages are received by you.

How do I change my password?

Login to your account. In the top right hand corner you will see your email address – click on this and you will be taken to your account information. Within ‘Personal Settings’ there is a link that takes you to the Change Password form.

I have forgotten my password.

If you have forgotten your password, you will need to contact the Alumni Relations team at or +44 (0)1225 386824. Please include your full name and BathMail username. Once your ID has been confirmed, we will provide you with a reset password.

I can't find the email containing my login details.

If you graduated recently, you will have received an email containing your login information. If you have lost or deleted this email, contact the Alumni Relations Team at or +44 (0) 1225 386824 who will be able to tell you your username and reset your password. Please include your full name, date of birth, subject of study and the year you graduated in the email.

Can I transfer emails from my student email account to my BathMail email account?

Yes - if you would like to transfer your emails from your student email account to your new BathMail account you can do so by using the Google migration tool.

Another means of transferring emails from your student account to BathMail would be to add your BathMail email account to your Outlook. This will then enable to you manually move emails and folders over, if you require instructions on how to do this please email

How do I forward mail from my BathMail account to another email account?

You can receive emails sent to your BathMail account through an existing account by following these steps to set up an automatic forwarding service. Bear in mind that you will not be able to send emails from your BathMail account this way.

  • Log in to your BathMail account.
  • Click the gear icon in the upper right, then select Settings.
  • Open the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
  • In the Forwarding section, select Forward a copy, and enter the email address to which you would like to forward emails.
  • Click Save changes. This will send a confirmation message to the forwarding address you entered. Click the link within this email to confirm.
  • Back within the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab, you're forwarding address should now appear in a drop down menu. You can choose and manage your forwarding options here.

How do I link BathMail to my phone or another email account?

If you would like to send and receive BathMail emails on your mobile or using another email account, you will have to link them. As there are too many different devices to list the detailed instructions here, we recommend that you look at Google's support website for instructions. Although this is intended for Gmail users, it can be adapted for BathMail by simply altering the '' email address to your BathMail address.

Please note that the incoming and outgoing mail servers should not be changed to

I am using the Email for Life forwarding service - will this be shut down?

Yes. The current Email for Life system has been superseded by BathMail, and was switched off on 2 July 2012. You will need to make sure that anyone who contacts you at your address has been informed of this change. You can sign up for a BathMail account today.
