Alumni Fund grants
Do you have an idea that would benefit your student society? Could a new piece of equipment kick start the success of your sports club, or the teaching and learning experience in your department? Or do you want to pursue a work placement with a difference?
Apply for an Alumni Fund grant
Alumni Fund grants can be made for any project which can be shown to enhance the University of Bath experience across the wider student community. These can support new innovations in academic contexts, new equipment for SU clubs or societies or enable new activities to be piloted.
Applications for the Winter funding round close on 1st November 2013. Projects which are time-sensitive and cannot wait until the next round of applications can be considered through an expedited route. To apply, please:
- consult the full eligibility and guidance notes;
- write a document describing the full detail of your idea and submit it with a Cover-Sheet Summary form
, both as a signed paper copy and as an email to development@bath.ac.uk.
Apply for placement funding
Students can also benefit from a grant towards a placement. This process should also be used where a single student is requesting personal funding for any off-campus activity to enhance career prospects or study. There is an annual deadline for applications each spring for placements starting in the summer, but if your placement is starting at a different time of year, or if details have not been finalised by the deadline, applications can still be considered at other times of year. The next deadline is for placement funding applications is 2nd April 2014. To apply, please:
- Download the application form
(125Kb) - this document contains full guidance notes for applying as well as the application form. - The form itself is also available as a Word document
.
Here are some examples of how Alumni Fund grants helped students to go the extra mile:
Check mate
A giant chess set, purchased with an Alumni Fund grant, has proved a great way to promote the game to newcomers, both on and off campus. The board popped up throughout the summer in Bath city centre, where locals, students and tourists challenged each other to games.
Going for goals
The University Handball team used a grant to buy a set of professional standard goals, enabling the club to host national fixtures for the first time and raising its reputation in the national league.
Pioneering placement
Gursimran Thandi (Psychology 2007-11) combined her academic ambitions with a personal goal to improve her Spanish, pursuing a research placement at the University of Barcelona to study language development in infants.
“I would like to thank the Alumni Fund for their generous contribution which went a long way to ensuring that I was able to secure this placement”
— Gursimran Thandi (Psychology 2007-11)
