On 6 April 2018, the government introduced the Soft Drinks Industry Levy. This is more commonly known as the sugar tax.

This nationwide tax means we’ve increased the price of drinks in our bars and eateries that contain 5% sugar or more.

You’ll be able to identify these drinks by the sugar taxed logo that we’ve introduced across campus.

Make sure you look out for healthier alternatives, labelled with our low in sugar icons. These labels are to help you to make healthier food choices and Eat What’s Right for you.

Since March 2016, the sugar tax has already resulted in more than 50% of manufacturers reducing the sugar content in drinks. This is the equal to 45 million kg of sugar every year.
