The new centre at 83 Pall Mall will help people across the University to better engage with individuals and organisations in London, from decision makers in Whitehall and Westminster, to commerce and industry. Our aim is to be a first port of call to share the latest thinking and develop new research ideas.
The event attracted a wide range of staff, alumni and guests from the Cabinet Office, the BBC, the Parliamentary Standards Authority, and the European Parliament.
Professor Dame Glynis M. Breakwell DBE, President and Vice-Chancellor, introduced the speakers and welcomed the guests to “Our locus to actively engage with business, politics and our alumni community.”
Jules Pipe, Deputy Mayor of London, said: “This wonderful building with thoroughly modern interior is a very fitting London home for a University of Bath’s reputation.
“Your arrival is perfect timing. In a post-Brexit world, the Mayor wants to show the world London is open for business, and with your focus on impact and global reach you join us as a dynamic initiator of innovation and opportunity.”
Baroness Jan Royall, Pro-Chancellor, said: “We are a young and vibrant university, proud to be based in the South West while a national and international leader on research, learning and teaching.
“Our 50th anniversary has given us many causes to celebrate our achievements and we now look forward to shaping the world with innovation vital to the city, like clean engines from IAAPS and zero carbon housing from the Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering.
“As the tectonic plates of politics shift, strategic partnerships are more important than ever. This new building will provide a platform to strengthen our existing partnerships and develop new ones. Partnerships that are vital to ensure that as well as tacking problems of today, we address the issues of tomorrow.”
Jules then unveiled the plaque, marking the official opening of the building.
The building offers a choice of bookable facilities from a conference room seating 60 to individual work booths.
