Technology Transfer

The creation of a new company or ‘spin-out’ can be the best vehicle for really high value opportunities, especially where there is a ‘platform technology’ with the potential for multiple applications. Usually significant investment needs to be raised to fund further technical and commercial development, and to ensure the potential value of the ideas is maximised.

As an opportunity approaches the point at which it is ready to spin-out (or license), Bath Ventures will engage and work together with Intellectual Property & Legal Services to advise, negotiate and draft related legal agreements.

Bath Ventures has the resources and expertise it takes to turn research into successful companies and, for selected opportunities, can provides companies created from the University’s IP with staged finance via its Enterprise Development Fund, University of Bath Seed Fund, and from its later stage funding partner, the IP Group.

However, new companies require more than investment to be successful, they also need ready access to expertise, skills and quality contacts. Bath Ventures’ Innovation Centre provides these in a flexible business environment where spin-outs work along side privately-owned start-ups in an Entrepreneur-friendly environment. Bath Ventures also actively maintains a wide range of commercial contacts via proven, high quality Partnership and Networks in order to fast track University spin-out companies with the business contacts they need.
