Welcome
In the summer of 2009, a team of five University of Bath students and five Malagasy collaborators from DBCAM conducted a biodiversity survey and preliminary socio-economic assessment of the Mahamavo dry forest and associated wetlands near the city of Mahajanga in western Madagascar.
Our goal was that the results of our expedition would add to the scientific knowledge of the biodiversity of this little-studied region, inform conservation planning at a regional level, and help our partner NGO in their long-term goal of establishing a social enterprise which contributes to conservation and human development in this region. As well as surveying, one member of the team tested an experimental power generation and cooking device.
You can seen the formal results of our work on the reports page, a blog of our daily experiences and findings can be found here, and a gallery here.
