Vista & Office 2007 Support Statement

Overview
On the 2nd February 2007, Microsoft released the Vista operating system and Office 2007. This document outlines the policy of the University to the adoption and support of these products following discussion and feedback from the user community. Vista and Office 2007 are not just simple upgrades to our currently installed Windows XP and Office 2003. Both products present a challenge for users and supporters and cannot be rolled out without the proper support infrastructure.
Statement of Authority, Scope and Responsibilities
This policy applies to all PCs capable of running Vista and/or Office 2007, either owned by the University, taking part in the Microsoft "Work at Home" rights or connecting to the University IP space, private or public. Computing Services are responsible for providing the necessary infrastructure to support Vista and Office 2007.

Licensing
The licensing model prescribed by Microsoft under our Campus Agreement gives the University the right to install the Ultimate, Enterprise or Business Editions of Vista. The Enterprise version of Vista is specifically aimed at Active Directory users.
Users taking part in the "Work at Home" scheme will need to go to ITP and purchase appropriate media.
