Why would you need to access the University remotely?

  • To work from home
  • You are travelling on a business trip
  • You are working at another University
  • You are on holiday
  • You are working anywhere where you have a device that allows you to connect to the internet.

What you can access?

Using an internet connection you can connect from home and access all the tools and your work files that would normally be available while on the campus. All it takes is a small amount of work from yourselves to set up both your home or work computer.

How to connect to the University?

You can connect to the University from home in several different ways:

1: Create connection to the University Network

If you have broadband at home we recommend using Virtual Private Network (VPN) for your connection.

How to Transfer Files?

If you want to transfer files held at the University - either on shared drives or your personal home directory, you can map drives.

If you want to transfer your files from your computer at home to your University directory you can use Secure File Transfer protocol (SFTP). It is also possible to gain secure access to applications on the University's Unix machines using SSH.
