Creating a VPN Connection to the University of Bath Using Microsoft Windows Vista

If you have not already set up your Internet connection, then you will be asked if you want to set up one before continuing. Setting up an Internet connection is beyond the scope of this document, so click I'll set up an Internet connection later to continue.

If you have set up your Internet Connection previously then you will be asked if you want to use this connection for connecting to University VPN service.

The choice is yours. If you are permanently connected to the Internet via a ADSL or Cable router, it is probably better to select the Let me decide later option.

If you wish to Allow other people to use this connection then you will be asked to provide permission by the User Account Control service that runs on Windows Vista.

Section 3: Finalizing the VPN Connection Settings

You will then be asked to provide permission by the User Account Control service that runs on Windows Vista.

On the Options tab ensure that the Dialing Options (Display progress while connecting, Prompt for
name and password, certificate, etc. and Include Windows logon domain) are all ticked:

 

Section 4: Using the University of Bath VPN Connection

Most people these days have an 'always on' broadband connection to the Internet through a router. If you still dial-up manually then please connect to the Internet before continuing.
