Introduction to the Docking Network
What it is?
If you are on campus and want to connect your laptop computer to the campus network, you can do this using an network cable (ethernet) this is called 'docking'.
What do I need to dock?
To be able to dock your laptop, you will need:
- a University of Bath username and password
Where can I get the equipment that I need?
Both the Ethernet card and the cable can be bought at the campus computer shop.
Where can I dock?
There are several docking station available in the library allowing you to simply plug in your laptop.
What will I have access to?
- the web
- printing (not available for Apple Mac)
- your University filespace
Make sure you read and follow the acceptable use policy.
Please ensure your laptop is setup according to instructions fitting to your computer's managing system :
- Windows 95
- Windows 98
- Windows ME
- Windows NT
- Windows 2000
- Mac OS (prior to Mac OS X)
- A bad connection
- No connection
- Confusion as to what to do
- Your laptop not connecting via your network cable (ethernet), card or port
Computing Services no longer supports the following operating systems. If your computer runs any of these you are not allowed to connect to the University network. The campus computer shop sells supported operating systems.
