Connecting to ResNet
We suggest that you print these pages as they will be a useful reference when setting up your computer to use the internet.
Before you start
Please note: ResNet is inside the University network; there is no need to use VPN (Virtual Private Network) for access.
Go through the following checklist to make sure you have everything you need to be able to connect to the internet from University accommodation:
- Check that your computer has an Ethernet port.
- Check that you have an Ethernet cable (RJ45)
- Check that you have a University username and password
- Check that you have a Virus Checker installed
- Check that your computer has all of the operating system updates and patches installed
- Read the Terms and Conditions as well as the Acceptable Use Policy
You can buy both the Ethernet card and cable in the campus computer shop located on Level 2 in the library.
Configuring your computer and plugging in
Depending on which operating system (OS) your computer runs, choose between the following options to learn how to set up your computer to connect to ResNet:
Additionally, we also support the following games consoles - some of which require special setup instructions:
If your operating system is any of these:
- Windows 95
- Windows 98
- Windows ME
- Windows NT
- Windows 2000
- Mac OS (prior to Mac OS X)
You will be unable to connect your computer to ResNet unless you upgrade your operating system to any of the systems we have given instructions for. Supported operating systems can be purchased from the campus computer shop.
We allow more than one device to be registered on Resnet, there are various options available depending on your requirements.
