Introduction to the ResNet Policy
What you must do under ResNet Policy
- Read and accept the Computing Services Acceptable Use Policy.
- Read and accept the ResNet Terms and Conditions of Service.
- Ensure your computer's Operating System is up to date. Please check the ResNet instructions for details of any steps required.
- Ensure appropriate Anti-Virus software is installed, working and up to date.
What you are not allowed to do under the ResNet Policy
- Break the Acceptable Use Policy for the use of Computing facilities at the University.
- Break the specific Terms & Conditions of Service of the Resnet policy you have agreed to.
Generally the above rules forbid you from causing interruption or nuisance to any computing system, or other user's access to computing facilities, through your use of ResNet.
What happens if you break the rules
If you are found to have broken any of the rules stated in the Terms & Conditions or the Acceptable Use Policy, your ResNet connection may be suspended pending investigation. A notification of the disconnection will be sent to your University email account if this happens.
If you break any regulation appropriate sanction and/or penalty will be applied.
Why?
Viruses and other malicious software can become a problem for the whole University network, not just for you. That is why we require everyone to make sure that their computers are as safe as they can be, by installing anti-virus programs and the newest software upgrades for their system.
Viruses can spread very fast and cause a lot of problems for many people. Viruses can vary in the damage they do, but even if it is "only" causing a lot traffic this can mean that the whole University network will stop working. Please make sure your computer is properly set up before you connect to the University network!
