SPSS users - update to Version 20 before 31 December 2012

We are requesting that all Lecturers & Researchers upgrade their software and teaching materials to SPSS 20, before 31 December 2012.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, IBM are no longer providing new licence keys for SPSS versions 15, 16 and 17.  IBM support for version 18 will continue. We are advising users to take this change in IBM's licence key strategy as an opportunity to upgrade to version 20.  Version 20 is the most up to date and therefore the most extensively supported by IBM.  Version 20 includes mapping capabilities and a much faster tables production speed.

The upgrade will avoid you losing access to SPSS due to your earlier version licence expiring.

There are two strands to your upgrade:

SPSS 20 will be available on the Public Access Computers (PACs) and in the lecture theatres, by 31 August 2012.

To update the software yourself on your own device, SPSS version 20 is available from our secure downloads area .

If you wish to request that your local supporter provides help with your upgrade, please email bucs-spss-upgrade@rt.bath.ac.uk.

Please note: If you have existing SPSS command syntax files containing Tables commands, you can use the SPSS 20 syntax converter utility to convert to CTables.  In SPSS 20 for Windows, choose Utilities , Run Script at C:\Program Files\IBM\SPSS\Statistics\20\Samples\SyntaxConverter.wwd.

Please note: .spo output files generated by SPSS 14 or earlier, will need a SPSS Viewer to open them.

Eduserve and the community have been in communication with IBM asking them to extend the availability of the licence codes, which they did for a year.  The survey done last year was to provide feedback to IBM about version use.
