Windows 8 statement
Microsoft Windows 8 operating system was released for general availability, Friday 26 October 2012. Bath University Computing Services (BUCS) will not be rolling out Windows 8 across campus at this time.
Reasons for waiting:
- importance of monitoring how the new operating system matures
- time for comprehensive testing for all essential University applications and IT services
- success of our Windows 7 roll out across campus in providing a stable and consistent environment throughout the academic year
Support will be available via BUCS
We are working on documentation for key services, such as VPN, Eduroam and ResNet. Support will initially be available on a "best effort" basis.
In addition, the Windows 8 ISO will be made available via Secure Downloads to your local IT supporter for testing and for ‘cutting edge' installations. Please note: this service will be made available once new licensing mechanisms are confirmed.
BUCS has published a more detailed response to the release of Windows 8.
