BUCS employee wins SEOTY

Mon May 20 12:31:00 BST 2013

Jules receiving his SEOTY certificate for being winner of the University of Bath on campus employee category Congratulations to John (Jules) Farrow for winning the University of Bath on-campus category of the Student Employee of the Year Awards (SEOTY) 2013, nominated by Graham Ryan from Bath University Computing Services (BUCS).

Students are nominated by their colleagues to recognise outstanding contributions and achievements of students who combine part-time work with their study commitments. Jules was one of 18 students who were nominated for the on-campus category.

Jules's win on Friday (10 May 2013) means he will be put forward to the Regional Awards - we are keeping our fingers crossed that his great work will be recognised on a regional level!

Windows 7 roll-out

In 2012 Jules was involved in the successful BUCS Windows 7 and Office 2010 upgrade project. His involvement helped us meet the project deadline. However more than this, his rapport with the customers also ensured that we did it with the support of the departments.

Library and General Teaching Area (GTA) PC upkeep

The Windows 7 project finished and Jules started working on the upkeep of the computers in the Jules_and_all_resize1Library and GTAs. These computers play a big part of the student experience at the University. Jules has been the voice of the student and has been invaluable in  providing the students' perspective on what they need and how BUCS can provide the best possible service.

Jules has secured a year's placement with 3M, starting August 2013. We wish him lots of luck with the placement and his exams in the next few weeks.
