Who can attend these courses?
These courses are available to both Staff and Postgraduate students (a small charge may apply for Postgraduates).
Please Note: These training courses are not available to members of the public or external organisations.
What training options are available?
- Instructor-led, classroom based training
- Self-paced, supervised training with an instructor on hand to provide assistance if needed.
What levels of training are available?
- Level 1 courses are the easiest and are suitable for beginners
- Level 2 courses are more suitable for users who are confident in using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, but want to learn more about the applictions.
- Level 3 courses are more advanced courses, usually focusing on a single topic or subject in greater depth than most courses.
Courses
All courses assume you have some previous experience using Office 2010, some courses also have additional pre-requisites, to enable you to get the most of the course please ensure you read these carefully to help you decide on the most apporiate courses for your needs.
Tutor Led Training
Word 2010 : Formatting
Course Level: Level 1
Pre-Requisites: This course assumes that you have a knowledge of working with a computer, opening programs and are happy using a keyboard and mouse.
Mode of Delivery: Tutor Led Workshop
Course Description: After completing this course you will be able to:
- Change document page layout options
- Perform basic text formatting
- Create and format tables
- Create, manage and apply styles to text
- Manage your document using Outline View
Target Audience: Staff and Post Graduates whose use Office 2010 and wish to learn more about formatting Word 2010 documents.

Word 2010 Mail Merge
Course Level: Level 2
Pre-Requisites: This course assumes that you have a good understanding of Microsoft Word 2010 including how to create tables.
Mode of Delivery: Tutor Led Workshop
Course Description:After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Create a data source for the mail merge
- Merge a Word table with a Word document
- Specify criteria for a mail merge
- Sort and filter mail merge results
- Merge an Excel Spreadsheet with a Word document
- Insert Word fields into a mail merge
- Create labels using mail merge in Word
- Base a mail merge on an Access table or query
Target Audience: Staff and Post Graduates whose use Office 2010 and wish to learn how to create a mail merge using Microsoft Word 2010.

Word 2010 : Managing Large Documents
Course Level: Level 3
Pre-Requisites: This course assumes that you have a good understanding of Microsoft Word 2010 and Windows 7.
Mode of Delivery: Tutor Led Workshop
Course Description: After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Create, manage and apply styles to text
- Understand and use Footnotes and Endnotes
- Structure your document using Sections
- Create and manage page Headers and Footers
- Create and control Tables of Contents, Tables of Figures and Indexes
- Manage your document using Outline View
Target Audience: Staff and Post Graduates whose use Office 2010 and wish to learn how to write and manage long documents using Microsoft Word 2010.

Self Paced Training
Word 2010 : Self Paced
Course Level: Level 1 and Level 2
Mode of Delivery: Self Paced Workshop, you may choose to complete either or both courses each course takes around 2 hours to complete but as they are self paced you may find that you finish the material in a shorter or longer time.
WORD 1
Pre-Requisites: This course assumes that you have a knowledge of working with a computer, opening programs and are happy using a keyboard and mouse.
Course Description: This course will give you practice in creating, saving and printing documents. You will also use tables, clip art, WordArt and templates and spell check your work. After the course you will be able to use

- Page Setup
- Pictures
- Wordart and Shapes
- Templates
WORD 2
Pre-Requisites: This course assumes that you have a good understanding of Microsoft Word 2010 and Windows 7.
Course Description: After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Create, manage and apply styles to text
- Understand and use Footnotes and Endnotes
- Structure your document using Sections
- Create and manage page Headers and Footers
- Create and control Tables of Contents, Tables of Figures and Indexes
- Manage your document using Outline View
- Use AutoCorrect
Target Audience: Staff and Post Graduates whose PC has been upgraded to Windows 7 and Office 2010.
