Copy & export data

  • Business Objects reports can be saved in different formats so that the data can be used in other programs.
  • It is also possible to copy the data from a Business Objects report straight into Word or Excel.

  • Once you have copied the report into Excel, you may need to do some editing on any headings that have copied to the top of the spreadsheet.
  • Adjust the width of columns.
  • Check that column headers still line up with the correct data and edit them if necessary.

Business Objects reports can be saved in the following formats:

Format Suggested uses
BusinessObjects documents (*.rep)
This is the default file format.
Rich text format (*.rtf)
This format can be understood by word processors including Microsoft Word.
Text file (*.txt)
This format can be understood by Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access.
Portable Document Format (*.pdf)
A widely accessible file format that can be attached to web pages or emailed.
HTML format (*.htm)
Could be used to display data on a web page.

  1. Open and refresh one of your own reports.
  2. Copy the data into Excel.
  3. Practice saving the report in each of the formats described above, then open the saved files to see how they look.
