Login and dashboard
When you log in to the wiki, the first place you are taken to is called the dashboard.
- From here you can browse to all existing spaces on the University wiki to which you have access.
- You can also view the personal spaces of staff and students at the University.
- You can mark any of these spaces as your favourites.
- You can create a new space or a new rss feed.
- You can see what information has recently been updated on the wiki.
Definitions
Breadcrumbs
The breadcrumbs trace the path from the current page to the dashboard along the space's page-hierarchy.
The breadcrumbs in Confluence are listed at the top of every page.
People Directory
The People Directory contains a list of all users of the University wiki. Each user's name links to their personal space.
rss feed
The acronym may be said to stand for "rich site summary" or "really simple syndication."
An rss feed will take information from a web site, usually in the format of news headlines, and display this on your own page.
Space
A space is an area on your site into which you can group different content items together in a structured way. All content in Confluence is organised into spaces.
Personal spaces belong to particular users, and rather than being listed on the dashboard, are available from the People Directory.
Spaces contain pages.
Team labels
Team labels are used to group together related spaces.
On the dashboard, you can then choose the team label from the drop-down menu on the Team tab.
Team labels are added through the Edit Space Details option within Space Administration.

Multi-select
The My tab lists spaces you have created.

The Team tab will display spaces for a team by making a selection from the drop-down list at the top of the tab.

The All tab displays all spaces on the wiki regardless of whether you have permission to view them or not.

When you log in,the left-hand column will display your favourite spaces by default.

The right-hand column displays a list of all recent changes in the spaces listed on the tab.

Activity: Explore the dashboard
Throughout this exercise, keep your wiki space in a separate window that is open in your browser. (This will enable you to keep this tutorial open in the other window at the same time.)
Go to this web address https://wiki.bath.ac.uk/dashboard.action
Log in to the wiki.
- Click on the Team tab.
- Click the drop-down list labelled View Spaces for Team, to see if there is a team relevant to you.
- If there is a New tab, click this to view new spaces on the wiki.
- Click the All tab. Mark the space called Sandbox as a favourite.
- Mark any other spaces you wish to mark as favourites.
- Click the My tab. Your favourite spaces will now be listed here.
- At the bottom of the Dashboard, click the People Directory link.
- In the Search box, enter the names of some people you know at the University, to find out what they have done with their personal spaces on the wiki.
- Use the breadcrumb links in the top left hand corner of the window to return to the Dashboard.
