Who Can Attend Our Courses?
University Staff
All contracted members of University staff are entitled to attend our IT training courses for free, or more details regarding eligibility please visit the Staff Development web page concerning course entitlement, or contact us.
Taught Postgraduate students can attend our sessions for a fee of £5.00 for courses lasting one and a half hours and £10 for courses lasting 2 hours or more. Ask your supervisor if you can claim for this. Please note we are only able to accept cash or a personal cheque for payment and this must be paid in advance. You can also attend one of the courses run through the SORTED programme for students.
Research Postgraduate students are also welcome to attend our sessions, fees are the same as for taught postgraduates and can be paid via cash, cheque or research funding. Alternatively you are also able to attend IT Skills Courses run through the PG Skills scheme , these courses are currently free to attend. Undergraduate students should contact SORTED to book on the IT training sessions specifically organised for students.
Please note: These IT training courses are not available to members of the general public or external organisations.
Departmental Group Sessions
If you are unable to make the advertised sessions our listed courses are available to staff, postgraduates and undergraduates as a departmental group session. These are held in the BUCS' IT Training Suite and are subject to room and trainer availability.
Courses for both undergraduates and postgraduates should be arranged through your department and a charge is payable
Customised Courses
Given sufficient notice we are also happy to offer customised courses for groups. some examples of ways in which we have previously facilitated this are below
- Department specific training on Endnote for MHRDU and Faculty of Engineering and Design.
- Self paced and Tutor Led Training in Microsoft Word for postgraduate students from the Department of Biology and Biochemistry.
- Self Paced Excel training in advanced excel features including Macros for Maths and Economics students about to embark on their placement year.
These course would be held in the BUCS' IT Training Suite and are subject to room and trainer availability.
