Matlab Licence activation
This process will need to be done for every laptop and non active directory workstation that Matlab is installed on.
These instructions are for the following Matlab users:
- Your Matlab licence ran out 31 May 2012, and
- You recently received an email from service@mathwork.com enabling you to activate your licence, and / or
- You have registered and activated Matlab software in the past.
Please note: if you are using Matlab 2007a or earlier you will need to contact you supporter to activate your licence.
What to do if you don't have a Mathsworks account or email
If you have not been registered and have not received an email, yet still have Matlab software to activate, email: sitelicencemanager@bath.ac.uk with the subject 'Matlab self activation required', quote your name and university user name. Once we have these details you can be added to the Matlab database at which point you will obtain the necessary email.

Licence expired activation with internet connection
- Click on your Matlab shortcut or icon to run Matlab
- Because the licence has run out you will get a User account control error Click Yes

- Select Activate automatically then select Next

- Enter you email address and your Mathworks registered password click next

- The licence you require will be highlighted click Next

- Pop ups will flash up on the screen while the automated process takes place.
- To confirm the activation settings click Activate

- Activation will now be complete - select finish.

Please note: You will need to navigate back to the Matlab shortcut/icon and click on it to start a Matlab session.
Licence expired activation with NO internet connection
Please note: You will need to access the internet with another device to download the licence renewal file. Steps 7 to 14 below are the steps that require internet access. Step 15 onwards assumes you have copied the licence file to your standalone device. You can use a USB stick to transfer the licence file.
- Click on your Matlab shortcut or icon to run Matlab
- Because the licence has run out you will get a User account control error Click Yes

- Select Activate manually without the internet then click Next

- Select I do not have a license file. Help me with the next steps then click Next

- Copy or Print out the host ID release No and note down the operating system you are using.

Please note: the following section requires you to be using a computer with an internet connection.
7. Open the internet and navigate to www.mathworks.com/licensecenter

- Log in to mathworks with your mathworks credentials

- Click on the license file then select the Activation and Installation Tab then select Activate

- Copy and paste the information found in section 3 HostID, Release, and operating system then give your activation a label that includes your username then Click Continue.

- You will then be asked if you want to email or download your license file choose the option that is best for you and click Continue

- You will then get the activation key Select Download License File

- Select Save File and then click OK - saving the file will depend on the browser used.

- Transfer this file to the standalone laptop or PC running Matlab, that does not have internet access.
- Click on your Matlab shortcut or icon to run Matlab
- Because the licence has run out you will get a User account control error Click Yes

- Select Activate manually without the internet then Click Next

- Provide the path to the License file then Click Next

- Your Activation is now complete
