University of Bath

Civil engineering applicant visit days

We run visit days for our undergraduate degree offer holders between November and April. Find out why you should attend one.

Prospective students examine architecture brochures and models
On our applicant visit days you will hear from recent graduates and take part in a design exercise with our current students.

After you receive an offer to study one of our undergraduate courses, we will invite you to one of our applicant visit days by email. We usually run these between November and April. You will be able to choose which day you would like to attend, but it's best to book one early as dates can fill up fast. We'll provide you with all the information you need about travelling here, accessibility and eating requirements in your invitation email.

Gain better insight into your course

We understand you may have already had a chance to visit campus on one of our University Open Days in June and September, so we've designed the day to be flexible with an optional talk and self-guided tour. Over lunch you will have the opportunity to talk with academics and current students and ask any questions you may have about studying at Bath.

In the afternoon our students will show you our departmental facilities. You will get to see the design spaces where our students develop their project work and laboratories where they learn about the behviour of materials. You'll hear from one of our graduates, who will share with you what it's like to pursue a career in civil engineering.

You will also have the opportunity to take part in a mini project alongside our current students. Working as part of a small group, you will rapidly generate creative proposals for a small building in an interesting setting. This will give you a taste of how sophisticated engineers work closely with architects and other professionals to produce new ideas.

Get a feel for campus and city life

Taking a self-guided tour around campus is a great chance to see what the University is like on a typical day and experience the atmosphere of students and staff going about their business.

Campus life isn't just about studying and there are many ways that you can make the most of your university experience. We'll provide you with a map so you can visit our Sports Training Village (STV), where you'll have access to the same facilities used by Olympic athletes. You can see our Students' Union, which houses the Student Centre, food outlets and the campus pub and night club. You can also visit The Edge, our arts centre where you can take dance, art and music classes.

The city of Bath is only 10 minutes away by bus so we advise our guests to take the opportunity to visit the city after their day with us has finished.

Are you unable to attend an open day?

We offer you a range of dates so that you can choose to attend one that best suits you. If you don't live in the UK, we understand it may be difficult to visit the University on the dates given. If you contact our Department, we will do our best to arrange an individual visit for you.
