Find out what the jobs are like

Our department is a fun, vibrant and supportive place to work. Come to an open day and you’ll be able to find out more about what it’s like to work in our different teams.

Each offer good rates of pay, please see each of the job details for individual salaries.

Working in the accommodation team

You’ll be part of the 130 strong team that looks after our student and guest accommodation. You’ll be required to work five days out of seven, generally on week days.

The type of roles in the accommodation team can include:

  • domestic assistants
  • porters
  • caretakers

Daily jobs can include cleaning the communal kitchens and social spaces in student accommodation and waste collection.

We are also proud to offer plenty of training and there are many opportunities leading on from these roles.

With an annual refurbishment and improvement programme, we pride ourselves on keeping our accommodation up-to-date and modern. This helps create a great working environment, with regular cleaning keeping the living areas to a high standard.

During the summer when we switch to a busy hotel operation, roles can change to include preparing rooms for staying guests, cleaning and changing bed linen.

Working in customer services in the bars and eateries

We’re proud of our friendly and energetic team that work hard to deliver great customer service in our bars and eateries. In the last three years we have opened three new outlets, so the roles are always varied.

As the face of our department, our food and beverage assistants do much more than just serve customers at the food counter tills and make hot drinks. You’ll be making them feel welcome throughout the day and delivering a high level of personal service, to make our customers feel truly valued.

Some of these roles are available on a full time basis and others part time, only during term time when we are a lot busier.

There are many opportunities to progress from this role, such as moving on to team leaders, hospitality supervisors and bar managers.

There are many training courses available too, in customer service, food safety, allergens and IT skills.
