General Porter

Our department provides catering to students, staff and external customers throughout the year.

As a General Porter you will be responsible for:

  • delivering and receiving stock
  • setting up tables and furniture
  • maintaining excellent hygiene standards
  • operating dishwashers
  • the daily cleaning of kitchen equipment, cutlery and crockery

You will be able to work well in a team and provide outstanding customer service.

Ideally, you'll have previous experience of:

  • working as a kitchen porter or general porter
  • using finance and stock computer software
  • using email

You will be working early mornings, evenings and weekends, on a five out of seven days per week contract.

The starting salary for this role is £15,721 rising to £16,654.

Commis Chef

Our hospitality department caters for students, staff and external customers during the academic year and the summer months.

We run many bars and eateries that offer a range of high quality food and drink options. We ensure that all cleanliness and health and safety standards are met.

We are recruiting for a Commis Chef to support our chefs within the Sports Cafe and CAFE at The Edge.

We're looking for someone that has experience as a junior chef and a passion for cooking high quality food.

An NVQ in Food Preparation would be a distinct advantage.

You should:

  • be comfortable working under pressure
  • have a positive attitude
  • be able to make effective working relationships with other team members
  • be comfortable working in different environments

You will be working early mornings, evenings and weekends, on a five out of seven days per week contract.

The starting salary for this role is £15,721 rising to £16,654.

Chef de Partie

We're looking for a motivated and passionate chef to join our kitchen team in CAFE at The Edge.

CAFE serves sandwiches, salads and homemade cakes. It also provides catering for conferences that take place in The Edge building.

You'll need:

  • experience of cooking high quality food
  • excellent standards of customer service
  • knowledge of food hygiene regulations
  • relevant NVQ or equal qualifications
  • experience of supervising junior kitchen staff
  • health and safety knowledge
  • to show you can form effective relationships with team members
  • to be able to stay calm under busy, pressured peak times

We're looking for someone that works well as part of a team and has an enthusiasm for suggesting new ideas.

The full-time role is working five days a week, between Monday and Saturday.

Shifts are usually during the daytime but will sometimes include early mornings, evenings and weekends.

The starting salary for this role is £18,777 rising to £20,989.
