Get involved in our community activities
Take advantage of the many creative and scientific events, activities and courses we offer members of the public and our local community.
Our Community eNews will keep you updated about upcoming events and give you the highlights from past events.
We send out the newsletter every two months. It features three top stories along with listings of the many sporting events, performances and public lectures that happen across campus. Here's an example of one of the newsletters.
Take advantage of our world-class sports and leisure facilities. You don’t have to be an athlete or in perfect shape to use them and they’re available to members of the public as well as students and employees.
- an Olympic-sized swimming pool
- astro pitches as well as badminton, basketball, squash and indoor volleyball courts for hire
- facilities for netball, tennis, indoor football/futsal, dojo and indoor jumps and throws
- a fully equipped professional gym
- fitness classes, including x-biking, yoga, ab attack, Pilates, Zumba and circuits
Experience the arts
Despite our reputation for creativity in the lab rather than on stage, our students and staff enjoy visual and performing arts as much as anyone else.
Discover thought-provoking classes, talks and workshops at our arts and creativity hub, The Edge. In addition to innovative shows and exhibitions, you can sign up for all sorts of courses, from dance to music to painting.
If you have younger friends or family, feel free to introduce them to our monthly Create Clubs, half-term activities and family shows.
This is our public lecture series, formerly known as the General University Lecture Programme (GULP). The next Minerva lectures take place in Autumn 2017.
All lectures in the Minerva series:
- are free
- start at 5:15pm
- take place on our Claverton Down campus (free parking after 5pm)
You can get the latest information on the series by joining our mailing list. Just email your name and address to firstname.lastname@example.org.

Organise your event on campus
You can hire our event facilities and use our experience in organising events to host yours on campus. We offer great spaces, overnight accommodation and a range of catering options.
Promoting a two-way relationship
We are a member of the Student Community Partnership, which is a forum to enable the local Council, University and Students' Union to work together.
It's been set up to promote excellent two-way relationships between local higher education students and other members of their local communities. Topics for discussion include accommodation, transport, welfare, community relations, community safety and environmental issues.
