All our undergraduate courses give you the option of going on a placement. You can decide whether you want to go on a placement after you’ve started your course. Around 60% of all science students go on a placement.
You get the opportunity to create valuable contacts for your future career and to develop your ability to solve problems, manage your time and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines. These are all transferable skills that employers value that will enhance your CV and help to prepare you for a competitive work environment. When you return to studies, you'll find the skills you've developed can be applied to the rest of your degree.
As a graduate with employment experience you will be highly valued and sought after by employers. A lot of our placement students receive a job offer from their placement employer.
Earn as you learn
Bath students are valuable to employers, so most of our placements are paid. Depending on your degree and the placement you apply for, you could earn between £15,000 and £25,000 while you are on placement.

Support and guidance every step of the way
Placement opportunities can not be guaranteed but you will receive tailored support from our specialist team to help you secure a placement.
We have a team of staff within the Faculty dedicated to supporting you in your search for a placement. They will help you find available positions and advise you about CVs and interviews. They run skills workshops to prepare you for the recruitment process and will stay in regular contact with you throughout the year.
Each member of the placements team is a specialist in a certain subject. They will be able to offer in-depth advice to both you and your placement employer and are experts in matching students with employers.
You will also be visited by a member of staff while you're on placement to ensure you get the best experience possible.
