1 West refurbishment
1 West is a key academic building located in the middle of the central parade that runs through our campus.
This major refurbishment aims to retain the building's original character while providing increased high quality learning and research space and improved environmental performance.
The £22m project consists of three phases which will see the addition of new learning facilities, computer laboratories, research facilities and offices.
Phase 1 is a new three-storey extension that will provide both learning space and office accommodation and is due to complete in September 2013.
Phase 2 would see the refurbishment of the core of the existing building and should finish in September 2014, while Phase 3 is the planned refurbishment of the building’s façade and areas immediately behind it with a completion date of September 2015.
Project updates
A topping out ceremony was held in June 2013 to mark the completion of the main construction work for the first phase of refurbishments.
The full completion of Phase 1 is expected in September 2013.
