The Edge

The Edge, our new arts and management building, is the base for the The Edge Arts’ programme of activity which encourages and supports participation and achievement in the creative arts.

It is also home to our new Executive Education Suite from which the School of Management offers business partners an innovative programme of courses, events and seminars.

Formal opening

His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex formally opened The Edge at a special showcase evening of music, dance and debate on Monday 11 May.

The Earl of Wessex, the University’s Chancellor, was joined by 200 guests at the ceremony, which featured:

  • An ‘in conversation’ panel debate with eminent speakers covering the relationship between arts, leadership and management.
  • The unveiling of three specially commissioned new paintings of the west coast of Ireland by Alan Cotton, one of Britain's most distinguished landscape painters and an honorary graduate of the University.
  • A piano recital by Joanna MacGregor OBE, one of the world’s most innovative musicians and an honorary graduate of the University.

The panel was chaired by Professor Veronica Hope Hailey, Dean of the School of Management, and featured:

  • Sir Christopher Frayling (honorary graduate and eminent cultural historian)
  • Ms Margaret Heffernan (honorary graduate, author and entrepreneur)
  • Sir Francis Richards (former Governor of Gibraltar and Director of GCHQ, current Chair of The Imperial War Museum)

Project details

  • Includes teaching facilities, theatre, gallery, performance and rehearsal studios.
  • Opened February 2015.
