James Gower wins one of the 12 national STAR Awards
James Gower, undergraduate Mathematics student, was presented yesterday with the STAR Award by Nick Mason, Commercial Director of Shaw Trust.
The STAR Award is a national scheme which honours individual achievement in the development of employability in spite of disability, and only 12 awards are available nationally. This is the first time an award has gone to a Bath student.
James undertook a summer internship with Ernst and Young, and now has a graduate job offer from them to start in 2011.
The Careers Advisory Service was delighted to host the ceremony and to break the news of his success to James, who had believed he was just coming for an interview!
Diane Hay, Head of Careers, said “We are delighted to work with Shaw Trust to make this presentation and we congratulate James on his achievement. It is an excellent example of how worthwhile summer internships are, especially for students who are not going to do a year’s placement”.
The CAS advertises a big range of internships and work experience opportunities online (see MyFuture), and students are welcome to come in for help with planning and applying.
