Table 3 The programme codes assigned to programmes
which are starting or continuing in the 1997/98 session are made
up of ten alphanumeric characters (e.g., UFTMECH001) in the following
manner:
1st character differentiates
UG or PG or CE (non-credit bearing) |

Postgraduate Continuing Education (non-credit bearing) |
2nd character differentiates
Mode of Attendance (i.e., the normal way the programme as a whole is undertaken/delivered) |

3rd character differentiates predominantly Taught or Research |

4th-7th characters differentiate
owning Department/School, or Faculty if a cross-departmental programme, or UNIV if a cross-faculty programme | Departmental code (e.g. SOCS for Social Sciences), or
Faculty code (e.g. HASS for Humanities & Social Sciences), or UNIV for a cross-Faculty programme such as Natural Sciences | |
8th-10th characters | Three-digit numeric starting at 001 |
