Description: Aims:
The aim of this unit is to help students integrate into the academic environment and to raise the level of their degree work.

Learning Outcomes:
Having completed this unit students will be better able to:
* Listen at length
* Identify the main ideas in a lecture
* Make useful notes from a lecture
* Summarise a lecture
* Prepare, plan and deliver an oral presentation
* Evaluate a presentation
* Invite questions and create thinking time for the answer
* Ask a lecturer or presenter questions
* Identify weaknesses in their pronunciation, and understand how to rectify them.

Skills:
Having completed this unit students will be better able to:
* Engage an audience
* Adopt appropriate body language when giving a presentation
* Use technical visual aids when giving a presentation
* Understand the principles of time management when giving a presentation
* Cope with nerves, equipment failure etc. when giving a presentation.
