It follows a graded programme of study. Previous learning is consolidated and additional grammatical structures and phrases are introduced, such as the conjugation of adjectives, and practised enabling students to link a series of discrete elements into a linear sequence and to selectively use not only Hiragana and Katakana but more frequently also Chinese characters. Students are required to demonstrate a degree of grammatical control in speaking and writing.
