To allow students to study a modern application of mathematics.

Learning Outcomes:
Students will select a topic and, using self study materials, supported by lectures/seminars will:
* learn the key concepts from the application area which underpin the topic,
* study some of the recent and/or seminal mathematical models/ algorithms which have been employed in the chosen application area,
* produce a summary review document to be used as a learning resource for peers,
* engage in peer assessment of oral and written presentations.

Skills:
Reading scientific research papers (F); writing reports (T,A); critical analysis of reports and presentations (T, A); seminar presentations (F, A).

Content:
Topics will normally be chosen to reflect the areas covered in the portfolio of summer projects. Topics may also be chosen independently by the student in agreement with the Director of Studies.
